Hey, guys! How time flies! This week, let’s talk about the energy storage device of the solar power system —- Batteries.
There are many types of batteries currently used in solar power systems, such as 12V/2V gelled batteries, 12V/2V OPzV batteries, 12.8V lithium batteries, 48V LifePO4 lithium batteries, 51.2V lithium iron batteries, etc. Today,Let’s take a look at the 12V & 2V gelled battery.
The gelled battery is a developmental classification of the lead-acid battery. The electrofluid in the battery is gelled. So It is why we called it gelled battery.
The internal structure of a gelled battery for a solar power system typically consists of the following components:
1. Lead plates: The battery will have lead plates that are coated with lead oxide. These plates will be immersed in an electrolyte gel made of sulfuric acid and silica.
2. Separator: Between each lead plate, there will be a separator made of a porous material that prevents the plates from touching each other.
3. Gel electrolyte: The gel electrolyte used in these batteries is usually made of fumed silica and sulfuric acid. This gel provides better uniformity of the acid solution and improves the battery’s performance.
4. Container: The container that houses the battery will be made of plastic that is resistant to acid and other corrosive materials.
5. Terminal posts: The battery will have terminal posts made of lead or other conductive material. These posts will connect to the solar panels and inverter that power the system.
6.Safety valves: As the battery charges and discharges, hydrogen gas will be produced. Safety valves are built into the battery to release this gas and prevent the battery from exploding.
The main difference between a 12V gelled battery and a 2V gelled battery is the voltage output. A 12V gelled battery provides 12 volts of direct current, while a 2V gelled battery provides only 2 volts of direct current.
In addition to the voltage output, there are other differences between these two types of batteries. The 12V battery is typically larger and heavier than the 2V battery, and it may be used for applications that require higher power output or longer run times. The 2V battery is smaller and lighter, making it more suitable for applications where space and weight are limited.
Now, Do you have a general understanding of the gelled battery?
See you next time for learning the other types of batteries!
